Why give a customer free Stamp(s) to join a program?
There is significant evidence to prove that if you pre-start a customer on a loyalty program with some stamps they are more likely to complete the card than if you present the customer with a blank card. Essentially people, including your customers! are more motivated to complete something that is started, than not started.

Within the Stamp Me dashboard, there is an ability to set the number of Stamps to provide a customer to start a program. These are one-off at the start of the program. ie. they will not be added to the second card.
